Addendum - And Thoughts About The Future

In my initial review and it's S1 debut, I was filled with hope & positivity, though next season around left me feeling a little distraught. Why? I knew in all likelihood this season would be it's last, and to that note the anime Konosuba was a project designed simply to promote the light novel sales and nothing more being that publisher Kadokawa Shoten has been open about there intentions, already having many titles that have been adapted to just become "read the manga endings". Konosuba was no different, well maybe different than most being that it got a sequel but still. What's more Akatsuke Natsume has already gone on record and stated that the partnership between his publisher and studio Deen has ceased it's relationship. Despite knowing this however, in 2016 I had
hope that even if Konosuba would only get one more season, that like the first it'll go out with a
!Bang! before it's imminent demise as an anime. Being that I already digressed my misgivings about my expectations and hopes the story would see more development with it's narrative and characters, I won't go much further in expressing that disappointment, however it does in deed still remain a disappointment. Though expectations aside, I still think that Konosuba still has a lot of laughs and joy to deliver whoever the given viewer may be, and it's just a fantastic production, showcasing what a modern Japanese animation can really do, even with just 10 episodes for a season.

Even though the light novel was 2nd in sales in Japan in 2016, none the less, we probably won't see another animation. The reason being is because along with the project having the sole purpose to promote the light novels, the original creators in turn only are only actually paid a presumably small licensing fee upfront with no royalties for sales, being peanuts compared to the money actually made from sales and adverts and such. For me I think if along with the upfront licensing fee, original creators should at least get a small amount of royalties of the total revenue, even 5-10% would be enticing, especially if they know that millions of copies will ship and people will tune in. Billions of dollars are made on an anime, even a small amount of royalties from such large sums would be adequate. I think it's relatively greedy since animation companies and committee's criminally underpay their staff, so it's a shame they can't spread the wealth even a little. I personally just dislike how the richer get richer and the poorer just keep getting poorer in Japan's animation industry, and at this rate staff shortages for animators will just continue to dwindle, and the anime industry will inevitably will cease to exist.

Though enough about the doom and gloom and back to the animation. I had actually pegged Konosuba to be a potential anime that with some more growth could be a candidate for the Wall of Fame. Despite still liking Konosuba, it definitely didn't change enough of it's formula or develop enough as a story to meet that expectation or standard. As a result Konosuba will take a dip in it's original ratings and will remain on the "Stuff we Like" page. Though I none the less recommend Konosuba all the while as I thinks it's great fun and full of laughter and beauty, being a extremely light series, that's easy to digest & motivating to watch.
