Samurai Champloo | Q's Anime Review & Commentary
It really is quite humbling to revisit a series such as this, being that nowadays, hardly anybody ever tries to experiment anymore and opt to do something different, much like contemporary directors such as Satoshi Kon or Watanabe have done in the past, and in terms the actual subject matter and style Watanabe brings to the table, that margin is just growing smaller and smaller as each year rolls by - Much less anime originals in the age of adaptations, being that it's far more common for people within the industry to choose the path of least resistance, rather than try something new to change it.  Though I found Samurai Champloo to be different, as it's creative and experimental, while still being able to hone in on core themes, as Samurai Champloo really is a story about wanting closure, and how life can bring about happy coincidences and journeys that follow. Being a 26 episode series, it's nice wholesome experience, with a warm sense of comedy and classic character driven action and dialogue, while indeed also having the visual and auditory components, such as the animation and dubbing to back the series up, that all the while make Samurai Champloo a Timeless rewatch and a classic at heart.
